PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a hormone disorder of women of childbearing age. In this, the female cannot produce eggs and have cysts in her ovaries. It is not a disease. It is a collection of symptoms and by taking the right measures you can reverse it.
It often begins soon after the first menstrual period at 11,12 years of age but it can develop in later ages like the 20s and 30s.

Symptoms:

  • Irregular periods or no periods at all.
  • Weight gain.
  • Infertility /difficulty in getting pregnant.

  • Acne on the face.

The ovaries may be bigger or cysts can be seen in the ovaries on Ultrasound.

Causes:

The main cause is still unknown but it is observed that obese or overweight females can control hormone imbalances by losing weight.
